Projects for Peace Grant
Projects for Peace Davis Foundation seeks to provide students across the US the opportunity to use their intellectual creativity and passions in a commitment to developing peace throughout the world. Kathryn Wasserman Davis, creator of the foundation, says that she wants, “to use her 100 birthday to help young people launch some immediate initiatives—that will bring new thinking to the prospects of peace in the world.” Just this year, From Sierra Leon, to Myanmar, from here in the USA to Israel and Palestine, the Davis Foundation has provided students from 85 different universities the funds to put their ideas for creating peace into motion. The Projects for Peace Foundation has been referred to as “a wonderfully conceived catalyst for public service in the best sense of the word.”Kathryn Wasserman Davis developed this program in order to allow “today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders” to “build prospects for peace worldwide” through their own initiatives.
The definition and stipulations for the grant provides for just that; an ambiguous description allows for students to inventively create peace throughout a limitless sphere of possibilities; facing their own challenges in a hands on applicable service to those in need. 100 projects are chosen to receive $10,000 in their efforts to design and implement a student-directed grassroots project. To apply for the grant undergraduate students are required to prepare a 2 page written statement describing anticipated plans of action, budgeting, and benevolent future results from such work. Thanks to Kathryn Wasserman Davis and her foundation young students seeking to help the world and make positive change have been given the opportunity to do so. Davis projects for peace allows students to become a part of the human rights initiative through truly meaningful projects designed themselves.
