How much does a banana really cost?
Our primary goal of our project is to create education and awareness around the situation facing the banana workers in Nicaragua. Our focus is on the struggle of the banana workers facing severe medical ailments due to the cancerous effects of a very harmful pesticide, Nemagon, used on the banana plantations where they used to work. We are dedicated to capturing the pain, struggle, and hope of the banana workers through film in an effort to help the victims as much as possible. We are also striving to incorporate different perspectives in our documentary in hope to provide an objective presentation of their situation. In addition to filming a documentary, we will also be working with other groups and individuals interested in helping out this cause to provide better and sustainable lives for the banana workers in Nicaragua.
Our filming spans from June 16th 2008 to July 7th 2008 in Nicaragua. Immediately after, the film crew headed back to Bucknell University to embark on editing this documentary. Our goal is to complete this documentary by the end of this summer, to be followed by fundraising efforts to help the banana workers.
This is definitely a learning process for the six of us as none of us have actual documentary production experience. However, our determination and urgency to help will aid us through this project.
